Palawan: A natural paradise and a sanctuary for flora and fauna

Palawan is an island that lies in the island province of Palawan. It is located between the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea, in Asia.  Being an island province of Philippines, this amazing tourist destination is situated in the MIMAROPA region. The capital of Palawan Island is Puerto Princesa City and is the largest province in the entire country, as per its total area. Stretching from the Mindoro in the northeast direction to the Borneo in the southwest, the island of Palawan features amazing attractions worth visiting.

The province of Palawan is named after the largest island of it, which is the Palawan Island and measures with an area of 450 kilometres as per its length and 50 kilometres as per its width. The island is the collection of long and narrow Palawan Island and in addition to this, many other smaller islands is encircled this main island. As it is the major island, you can experience an array of amazing islands seems like gems floating on the reflective waters. One of the spectacular examples of the islands is the Calamianes Group of Islands. The islands lies towards the northwest direction and is comprised of the Busuanga Island, Coron Island, and the Culion Island.

Towards the westernmost direction of the Palawan Island is the Durangan Island situated and the Balabac Island lies off the southern tip, dividing further from the Borneo by the Balabac Strait. Along with this, in the Sulu Sea, the island covers the Cuyo Islands. Well, from this, you might have understood that the island boasts many small and breathtaking islands along with beautiful sights and attractions. The island of Palawan has some 2,000 kilometres of irregular coastline that could be found spreading everywhere with nearly 1,780 islands and islets, rocky coves, and of course, the sugar white sandy beaches.

The terrain is a mixture of coastal plain, valley deltas, craggy foothills, and heavy forest sprinkled with the riverine arteries, which serve as irrigation.

Some of the remarkable sites which you cannot miss exploring are the Calauit Game Preserve and the Wildlife Sanctuary; Coron Reefs, Coron Bay and Busuanga; EI Nido Marine Reserve park; Malampaya Sound Land and Seascape Protected Area; and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites that are the Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park in the year 1999 and the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park in the year 1993. With this, the Ursula Island is also a fascinating place to explore, as it boasts great bird sanctuary and game refuge and lies close to the Municipality of Brooke’s Point in the southern Palawan.

This province enjoys just two types of climate – 6 months dry and 6 months wet in the northern and southern extremities and the complete western coast, whereas; the other climate occurs in the eastern coast with short dry season of 1-3 months and rainy that could be experienced throughout the rest of the year. To enter to the provinces of Palawan, you need to catch a flight and get departed at the Puerto Princesa International Airport. This airport is the major gateway to the Palawan with major airlines that serves international and domestic flights. Besides this, there is one more airport from where you can enter the areas and explore them to the fullest. The airport is EI Nido Airport.

While exploring the island, do not miss to visit the Tabon Caves that lies in the Quezon. The caves were the discovery site of skull cap leftovers of the Tabon Man that has been approximately dating to be 22,000 years old. The caves offer you 138 hectares of the rocky cliffs and also deep slopes and breathtaking sea view that captivates every tourist. With its splendid beauty, the Palawan is not less than a paradise of nature, and also boasts excellent sanctuary with a variety of flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else in the entire world. The Palawan Island is blessed with exceptionally overwhelming landscapes that enthralls tourists to the fullest.
